My first day at DART was filled with fun from the start. After reporting for duty at 9am, I was taken in by a nice young lady by the name of Bridgette Donaldson, who introduced me to the people I am to be working with over the course of the week. I met a woman named Ms. Lennon who is the supervisor over the majority of the people I'm going to be working with and I also met a man named Miguel. Today, I was placed with Mr. Miguel and shadowed him through his whole day's agenda. The first thing we did was sat down in his office where he gave me the plan of action for today. We planned to go to Amelia Earhart Elementary school and take a couple of third grade classes on a field trip. We had to make sure we had a full map with the times that we planned to be at each stop along the way. The driver of the bus was also given a copy just like the one that Mr. Miguel had so that he knew what was going on at all times and never felt left out. Before we could leave the office, we had to sign out and pack some materials for the kids to have after their trip was over. Mr. Miguel and I went to pick the students up from the school but before we left, we had to give them a fifteen minute talk about DART's safety rules and regulations. After this was over, we took them on the bus to University Park TRE station. From there we took the train to Union Station where we then stopped for a prolonged bathroom break. Once everyone relieved themselves, we were picked up by the same bus and taken to the park a few streets down, in the middle of down town Dallas. We ate lunch until 12 before we took the kids back to their school. They loved every second of it and were very sad to leave. We then headed back to the office were Mr. Miguel showed me how to navigate my way through the confusing cubical and elevators, before signing back in and bidding me farewell until tomorrow. I look forward to tomorrow's events because I plan on meeting the General Manager, Victor Burke and his secretary Betty, who I will thank for making this experience possible for me. My schedule is different each day because the workers want to give me a chance to see the different departments that DART has to offer so I do not know what tomorrow has in store.
